Everything you need to get through your mastectomy surgery or to put together the perfect mastectomy recovery gift basket. Planning ahead will make your recovery so much easier and more comfortable. Kelly Bee Recovery's mastectomy garments were created for this purpose. They are a blend of function and comfort to make you feel a little bit normal after surgery. You can leave your house or head to work with your surgical drains safely hidden.

Post Mastectomy Wardrobe

Immediately after surgery, you will be dealing with swelling, sore incisions, surgical drains and the inability to lift your arms. You will need button front or zip front clothing and bras. Built in space to hold surgical drains will make all of this so much easier and more comfortable. These are just a few of Kelly Bee's Recovery garments that serve this purpose

Zip And Button Front Tops

Kelly Bee has designed a variety of mastectomy recovery garments to help you feel normal during your recovery. All items look like regular clothing, but with hidden interior pockets to hold multiple surgical drains on each side. The button front tank tops can be worn alone or under your favorite hoodie or button front top to keep surgical drains close and prevent them from swinging around. The hoodies are amazingly soft for lounging in the hospital or home. Cardigans work great for heading back to work with your drains or if you need to dress things up. And the pajamas are the softest, most comfortable mastectomy pajamas that you just might end up wearing all day.

Mastectomy Bras for Every Stage of Your Recovery

Whether you have had a single mastectomy, double mastectomy, reconstruction, tissue expanders or are going flat, immediately after your surgery, you will want button or zip-front bras with gentle compression and soft cups. These bras by Kelly Bee are the absolute softest and will be the most comfortable to accommodate swelling and your new breasts or tissue expanders. These mastectomy bras with light padding will also help you recover emotionally by helping your new body feel normal. Kelly Bee offers button front bras for right after surgery, soft bras for when you can lift your arms again, but still want something light and soft against your incisions, and prosthetic bras if you were not a candidate for reconstruction or have chosen to go flat.

Mastectomy Recovery Product Recommendations

Sleeping

Sleeping will be a little rough when you are first home from the hospital and don't have an electric hospital bed to keep you inclined. You will want to sleep at an incline to relieve some pressure and help with the drains. You can either pile up a whole bunch of pillows or get one of these wedge pillows to help.

Recovering at Home

Comfort

These recovery pillows can be placed under the arms after surgery to prevent rubbing tender areas and for comfort and support. Insert ice packs to soothe your surgical site and help reduce swelling. It also has a pocket to keep any necessary items close by, like your phone, pen, notebook, etc.

A cozy blanket is always a good gift idea. For some extra warmth in the cold hospital or lounging on the couch during your home recovery. Add one of these to a mastectomy recovery gift basket for some added comfort.

.

Comfy socks are another great add in to a mastectomy care package. These are super trendy and cute and have the added bonus of sticky bottoms so you won't have to use the hospital provided ugly scratchy ones.

Self Care

You are not going to be able to shower for a while after surgery, especially if you come home with surgical drains. And even if you can, you won't be able to lift your arms to wash your hair. Dry shampoo is a great option during this period, or whenever you want to extend the time between shampoos. Here are two of my personal favorites:

These no-rinse cleansers are great to help you feel fresh and clean until you can shower. The microwaveable wipes will give you the warm bath feeling to tide you over. These are also great for traveling, camping or hiking.

When you do get the ok to shower with your drains still in, you will need a way to keep the drains held up so that you have use of your hands and to prevent them from painfully swinging around. All you need is a simple lanyard like the one below. Put it around your neck and put the drains tubes in the clasp. You can also put them behind your back to keep them from getting too wet.

Hospitals are sooooo dry! Lotions and lip balms are so helpful during this time. Throw in your favorite for a mastectomy recovery care package or try one of these:

Back to surgical drains...they are the worst part of this whole ordeal. You might have a nurse helping you manage them in the beginning, but when you are handling them yourself, you want to make sure you are prepared to keep them clean and dry. This wound care kit or first aid kit will have you prepared for anything:

Entertainment

You will definitely not be able to do much in the beginning, so let your friends and family take care of you and take the time to relax and heal. Keep yourself busy with some of these activities or learn something new! These are also great to add to a mastectomy gift basket:

Write it down

All the appointments, medications and every day life can be a lot. I always have an ongoing to do list and things to remember list.  A notebook and nice set of pens are so helpful to have handy.

Bag it up

Put it all in a fun and inspirational tote bag! You have gathered everything you or a loved one needs to make it through their mastectomy surgery and recovery, now wrap it up in a pretty bag. You can use these to bring all your supplies to doctor appointments, chemo treatments or just to the grocery store.
